SUMMER 2020

Know Your Fabric

LEVEL UP THIS LOCKDOWN WITH THESE SUMMER 2020 TRENDS
Summer 2020 will see demand grow for sustainable, eco-friendly material- natural, simple textures like white cotton poplin, embroidery anglaise and linens. Crinkled and wrinkled – unprocessed looking finishes are key. Soft handles in white and fresh fruity colours create a vintage feel alongside faded stripes and laundered looking textures. Simple and fresh looks drive a pastel collection of colours to casual cotton and rayons .Bright poplins find their way into summer to match the brightness of the day- coral and hot turq make an artful impact on the season. Summer 2020 opens with a delicate story of Nature. Chiffon, yoryu, cotton and rayon voiles updated with vintage floral prints give the feeling of outdoor meadows sprinkled with flowers. Our vintage glam yoryu print is perfect for lacey Victorian blouses. There is a strong and growing awareness around what is socially and ethically acceptable. Women are finding their voices and speaking out, empowering each other. POWER dressing is a trend to watch with suiting at the forefront. Tailoring is embraced with oversized and versatile blazers, also worn with cycling shorts and preppy socks and loafers.

DENIM DIARY:

SK’s Chambray 1574 and our denim SG5050 fit into the new “SLOW FASHION” ethos of today’s awareness for sustainable fashion. Style and sustainability can co-exist, 100 % cotton chambray and our 100% denim qualities are eco-friendly. They pull together beautifully in a new modern world where fashion and trends are steering in a more mindful direction.

COVID AND THE TIE DYE TREND:

When designers began working on their spring summer 2020 collections, it was impossible for them to have predicted a huge global crisis. Lounge Ready Fashion, took over- the Braletts and Brardigas became the new Lockdown look- it was this “Bradigan” trend that defines “stay at home” athleisure lounge wear. Hanging around the house on zoom and Instagram required comfy yet stylish silhouettes. Joining the stay at home in style look, was the tie dye trend which has gained huge popularity on the streets since lock down. Tie dying at home during Covid restrictions took over as a key DIY opportunity. Tie dying your soft silky pyjamas, or house dress continues as one of the biggest trends to come out of the Covid pandemic.

THE 80S REVIVAL TREND:

Since the 80s were back in fashion, the big balloon sleeve has returned. This whole modern Victorian vibe radiates the regal sleeve, making it one of the best additions to summer 2020 styling. Adding drama to any little outfit, the puff sleeve has the power to attract attention- there are no rules or regulations on size- Confidence is key! From the organza puff to cotton poplin this fun loving detail adds an 80s twist to any garment. From the puff sleeve, the return of the bishop sleeve in soft drapey chiffon and double georgettes and satins create a more sheer, elegant an translucent feel, adding a gracefulness to feminine silhouettes.

CUT OUT CATWALK TREND:

That unexpected slither of skin, the revamped body con dress in SCUBA, BON BON and VISCOSE SPAN and even our Bengaline help make this another summer trend to watch out for!
