SPRING SUMMER 2019

Know Your Fabric

YEAR OF THE ‘LIVING CORAL’
The biggest trend we will see is ‘Summer Safari’. The colours we see in this trend are camels, fatigues, updated ochres and military. The Safari Shirt dress is an update on last year’s plain Shirt Dress. Cargo pants and Safari suits are made to look more rustic with cottons, linen blends and rayon twills. The cargo pants are also seen to be worn with the Victorian peasant blouse. Soft sweatshirts in poly spandex are seen for younger markets.
Textured knits have gathered momentum and the Poly Span knits and crochet type knits are great for everyday casual, comfy styles. Slubs, ribs and jacquards are back and are seen in wavey designs. These textured knit tops don’t need extra trims, keeping production costs low and therefore are an attractive item to produce. Burnouts, peach crepe knits are also some key knits for this summer!
Checks and Summer Ginghams are a familiar trend to continue this year. A feminine look is created through soft pastels and faded brings in checks and stripes. However, new to this season trend are dip-dyed ombre effects creating a different approach to checks. Checks on printed knits and jacquard feature too in bright statement colours.
Corals infiltrate through all channels. “Living Coral” is an important colour for both ladies and kidswear. Bright orange and extreme pink or cerise are also top shades which add a sense of confidence and spirit to the summer collections! Neons have also created a huge stir which are seen through social media. The stars are wearing neon by setting this trend.
